ADIDAS RUNNERS: THE ENERGY EDIT

Energy is a resource which is vital for any runner. It’s something which helps to drive us forward, it offers us the ability to make a difference, and provides us with the tools to contribute to our community in meaningful ways. Energy is a resource which comes from within, it’s something we build up, something we should protect, and something to expel. A power which when harnessed, can push us further, way beyond where we thought we could ever go.

But it’s also something we can lose, a resource which when not protected, can begin to dwindle and run low. Amidst a challenging time or following a period of high energy, we as runners and individuals, can sometimes feel like we have no energy left at all.

We sat down with five of our adidas Runners captains and coaches from across the globe as they shared some of their favorite tips and tricks with us for gaining, storing and maintaining energy. Here’s what they had to say…

Mindset

“Boost your energy by giving your mind a timed power nap and wake up feeling fresh and focused. Get into your flow state by moving and breathing outdoors in the sun and with nature. Lastly, use water to move energies within and surrounding the body by hydrating, soaking in a bath or simply being close to a body of water.” – adidas Runners Manila coach Nikki Torres, on the topic of Mindset.

Nutrition

“One of our main sources of energy through food comes from carbohydrates. It’s important as athletes and runners that we incorporate carbohydrates into our meals not only to supply us with adequate energy, but in addition it aids in our recovery.” – adidas Runners NYC Nutrition Coach, Lottie Bildirici on the topic of Nutrition.

Movement

“Engage in other sports and practices so you can become more aware of your body and gain more energy; whether it’s powerlifting, basketball, football, yoga, capoeira, or even dancing. All of the above requires you to be on your feet and move in a variety of different ways, creating more connections within your body and the ground. Learn how to use your body and your energy and be explosive!” – adidas Runners Manila Captain, Jules Aquino on the topic of Movement.

Recovery

“There are many ways in which your body can recover from a powerful workout: you can meditate, stretch, lay down at home or even go for a walk! What’s important here is that you let your body recharge, re-fuel with good food, good thoughts and of course, rest! These are some awesome ways to recover and help to feel full of energy for a new day.” – adidas Runners Panama Captain, Marelissa Him on the topic of Recovery.

Gear

“What is your energy source? Is it the feeling of freedom, the silence, the speed? For me it is the connection of the world through the road. The feeling of confidence through a shoe is there to translate any surface and elevate the energy of any run into something different and something new. To recharge the body and soul with every step, bringing a whole new energy and feeling to a runners high!” – adidas Runners Dubai & Abu Dhabi captain, Lee Ryan on the topic of Gear.
